Looking back at 2015
Two years ago I set out to follow a long-lived passion of mine — photography. With two young kids, I thought it’d take years grow the business. Now as 2015 comes to a close, it’s hard to imagine a better year for Feather + Light. I’m forever grateful for such a supportive family who offered help with the kids while I was away for shoots and tirelessly editing for hours on end. I feel lucky to have been inspired to by some amazing photographers that urged me to back behind the camera and capture the world around me. And of course, I have the most amazing and dedicated clients. None of this would’ve been possible without them.
Sifting through thousands of pictures from 2015 to find my favorites has proved to be difficult. It’s hard not to relive every moment a family let me in to their life for that short period to capture what was most precious to them. With every smile, every giggle, I somehow became their family for that short time. I can’t even begin to express how amazing it has been to meet so many wonderful people, not to mention all the adorable little feet.
Starting out, I was lucky to get a lot of great advice. Whether it was the best settings for kids, how to edit, how to tell a story, I was surrounded by incredible people armed and ready to help. But in all that, I learned the best thing I could do is just be me – to capture things how I see them. I’ve learned to lay in the mud to get the perfect shot, to bring lots of snacks to newborn session, but most importantly…to just be me.
I have so much more to learn. 2015 has given me inspiration again. It’s forced me to get behind a real camera and document my own life and kids. I hope to make more mistakes and continue to learn from them. I hope to grow my ability to tell a story through images. But mostly, I hope to continue to love sharing in people’s joy, their laughter and their families. Thank you all for your support. It means the world to me. Here’s to another great year ahead. Happy New Year!
